The team and I traveled for about three or four hours to a small Island off the Eastern coast of North Sulawesi called Lembeh. The team has been working with some locals to build coral modules that can be placed into the water. Each module is a huge concrete block with PVC pipe coming out the top that the coral can be attached to. To start our task, we took a boat out a few hundred meters to snorkel the area looking for a good location to place the modules. Ideally, the area would be flat, sandy, have limited currents, and be out of reach of crashing waves. We found an area relatively quickly in about 10-15 meters of water. Once the area was recorded on the GPS we could begin bringing out the modules to the water. They are extremely heavy and we were using a small boat so only two could be brought out at a time. Between moving the modules, a group of young boys from the nearby village came to play with us. We got to snorkel with them, play soccer, and teach them how to count to 100 in English.
